Listening to your Inner Voice in the Midst of A Lot of Noise.

You may be reading this on a day still before the President-Elect takes office, or at some point thereafter.  No matter, this is not a partisan post.

However, it is a call to each and every one of us to pay attention to what we pay attention to.

The daily news, which at some point long ago, we felt we could rely on for impartial and objective reporting about current events, now has become insanely sensationalistic and ratings-focused.  This “dramatization” of the news has inspired recent media outlets that are providing “fake news.”   What?

How are we to know what material to believe?  And even if we feel confident the information is  relatively accurate, how can we keep ourselves from becoming overstimulated with so much  Ego-based and adrenaline-fueled coverage?

This is definitely a question for our modern times.  One that is challenging for any of us who are on a path of seeking Truth and attempting to live more Lovingly and Authentically.

How can we stay informed without becoming lost in a sea of misinformation and drama, both of which the Ego feeds on?

It is so easy to get sucked in to a collective Ego flood of emotions and Stories as Reality, believing there is no way to change our experience of the world, especially when the majority of people are aligned with this Ego illusion.  So many of us are confused, reactive, and looking for a solid ground to stand upon — so we grasp at anything that feels like an answer, an explanation, something that might make some sense.

Often when our Egos are looking for something concrete to land on (Egos hate ambiguity and shades of grey), they will accept anything to explain the unexplainable.  Sometimes the way to clarity is to declare others the enemy; it is easy to hate someone we have demonized; in fact sometimes the only way to disconnect from our true Essence Selves, which are all about connection and unity, is to de-humanize those we are most afraid of.

When we are afraid, if there is someone to hate, our Egos have us believing that we have some sort of power, in a situation where we feel relatively powerless.

Can you feel the energy of this?  Do you know what it feels like when your Ego is activated and you are riled up and looking for someone to disparage?  It can make us feel very powerful and big.  But mostly it is an illusion.  Mostly, it speaks to how small we actually feel underneath our fear.

So, how do we keep our Egos in check when we feeling scared and powerless about a future that is uncertain, while also being bombarded by calls to action against some declared enemy?

How do we find a way to stand up for what we believe in without demonizing those who believe something different?

Some would say that some of the anger and indignation we feel is an impetus for change.  I would not disagree.  Those feelings actually are good indicators that something needs to change; so if used as such, can be very helpful.  However, for how long do we need to marinate in those feelings in order to take Essence-based Action?

Would we have the same passion for social justice and fairness and equality and integrity and honesty if we were not fueled by an Ego-charged need for power over others?

Well, we could if we made it a point to tap into the energy of Essence, which is inherently aligned with all of those worthy outcomes.

Can we find a balance, then, between staying informed using sources that resonate with our intuition, while also listening to our inner voices letting us know when to turn off the outside noise and allow the data we have gathered to truly guide us toward Essence Responses, not Ego Reactions?

Today, let us hold an intention to do just that; to find a balance.

Today, let us hold an intention to pay attention to our intuition and allow it to lead us to the sources of information that feel aligned with our Truth;

Let us hold an intention to combine what we learn externally with our Inner Knowing to determine any Action that we take moving forward.

In times such as these, it seems more important than ever to find our own True North and literally use it to navigate the course of our lives.

“Sometimes you need to sit lonely on the floor in a quiet room in order to hear your own voice and not let it drown in the noise of others.”  ~ Charlotte Eriksson
